Early Results Suggest Utah Democrats Exceed Expectations

Government and Politics

Salt Lake City - Utah Democratic Party Chair Diane Lewis released the following statement on Nov 6, 2024:

“As this monumental election cycle comes to an end, I am so proud of the work done by Utah Democratic candidates, Democratic staffers, and our amazing volunteers. As of this moment, Democratic candidates hold leads in all the Salt Lake County-wide races, as well as several highly competitive state legislative races.

The Utah Democratic Party’s Coordinated Campaign, made up of the Salt Lake County Democratic Party as well as other coalition partners, was instrumental in persuading undecided voters to vote for Democrats in down-ballot races, and in turning Democrats out to the polls. From door knocking to texting to phone banking, our staff and volunteers helped secure the leads we are seeing in races across our state today.

While we await the final canvass, I am encouraged by preliminary results. Utahns have made it clear that they’re ready for change, and the Utah Democratic Party is ready to deliver.

Though we are disappointed in the results on the national stage, we are committed to upholding our democratic institutions. It is critical that Democrats do not give up hope. Our party defeated the first Trump presidency, and we must remain engaged, informed, and involved to limit the damage of a second Trump term. Our freedoms are too important to give in to despair.”
