Drug-Free World brings prevention education to Virginia’s top teachers at the VAHPERD Convention in Virginia Beach
On November 7–8, 2025, the Foundation for a Drug-Free World participated in the Virginia Association for Health, Physical Education, Recreation & Dance (VAHPERD) 88th Annual Convention held at The Founders Inn & Spa, Tapestry Collection by Hilton, in Virginia Beach—just a short distance from the historic Cape Henry Lighthouse, where English colonists first landed in 1607.
The purpose of this participation was to introduce educators and school administrators to the Truth About Drugs materials and provide Drug-Free World Educator Kits, equipping teachers with effective resources to educate youth on the dangers of drug use.
Members of the Foundation for a Drug-Free World Chapter in Washington, D.C. arrived in Virginia Beach to accomplish that very purpose. The team engaged directly with educators, briefing attendees on the program and signing them up to receive free educator kits shipped directly to their schools.
Each Drug-Free World Educator Kit consists of a full semester of lesson plans, essays, and homework assignments designed to elicit student participation; a full-length, award-winning documentary The Truth About Drugs: Real People, Real Stories, which focuses on the 12 most commonly abused drugs; 24 sets of The Truth About Drugs booklet series, breaking down the effects of each drug on the mind and body in terms youth can easily understand; and 12 posters that match the theme and data of the rest of the materials.
Over the course of the two-day convention, the team reached 50 educators, distributing 45 educator kits, 50 information portfolios, and 48 sets of Truth About Drugs booklets—including the newest addition, The Truth About Fentanyl. Many teachers expressed enthusiasm about the updated materials, with several remarking that they had previously used the curriculum and were pleased to reconnect with the program.
The Drug-Free World booth also drew attention from other exhibitors, expanding community connections and laying the groundwork for future partnerships.
Through this outreach, Drug-Free World continues to empower educators with factual tools that inspire youth to make informed choices and live drug-free lives—further advancing the mission to create a safer and healthier Virginia.
