January 20 Vacation Program
“The arc of the moral universe is long, but it bends towards justice.” — Martin Luther King Jr., 1968
While school is closed, let learning continue at the Eli Whitney Museum! Students will spend the day learning about Charles McGee, an artist who dedicated his career to promoting peace, harmony, and balance. Aligned with Martin Luther King Jr.'s pursuit of civil rights, McGee used black-and-white imagery to represent his desired vision of equality.
For our January 20 program, we will look to McGee for inspiration on a collaborative large-scale collage. This collage will become a permanent fixture at the Eli Whitney Museum and remind us of McGee’s hope for a better and more peaceful world. Each camper will create a section of the collage and make a smaller version to take home to spread this message of unity!
“I feel we need to come together as a people. I think that has been and will be my dedication as long as I live.” — Charles McGee, 1988
Before Care (8–9 a.m.) and After Care (3–5:30 p.m.) are available.

Staff Updates
During the fall, we welcomed a few new staff members the EWMW team! Get to know two of them in this month's employee spotlight.
Magen Fiore, Part-Time Educator
Magen joined the Eli Whitney team as an Educational Intern in an art therapy program at Albertus Magnus, and we are excited to welcome her now as a Part-Time Educator. Gardening is one of her favorite activities, but enjoys anything that takes her into the great outdoors! This summer she will be teaching Forest Networks and First Circuits.
Jacob Yale, Part-Time Inventory Management Assistant
As you can imagine, we have a lot of parts and pieces at the Eli Whitney Museum, and Jacob helps manage inventory to ensure projects are ready to go when we need them! In his spare time, Jacob enjoys bowling and loves to play tennis.
Lunarfest 2025: Year of the Snake
Each year, the Yale-China Association hosts Connecticut's largest Lunar New Year Celebration featuring a lion dance parade, local artist performances and exhibits, interactive workshops, and more to celebrate the Chinese New Year!
On February 1, the museum will be participating in the Lion Dance Parade from 10–11:30 a.m. along with hundreds of community members. From 2:30–4 p.m., our apprentices will be at the New Haven Museum to lead a hands-on Chinese lantern workshop to ring in the New Year.
Also at the New Haven Museum, you'll be able to hang your wishes for the New Year on the Eli Whitney Museum & Workshop-designed "Wishing Tree" as part of a Lunar New Year tradition.
Mark your calendars!
