A Spanish-language version of our monthly playgroup by Sparkler, the child development app for families with young children. Fun will include play time, a snack, a take-home activity to extend play and one-on-one support and facilitation from a Sparkler family & community engagement specialist. Teen Workshop: Interpersonal Communication
First Session: Tuesday, January 9 from 4 to 5:30 p.m.
West Side Branch
The Greater Stamford Toastmasters will lead a six-session workshop on interpersonal communication to help teens build effective listening and communication skills while understanding their individual communication styles. Consecutive Tuesdays through February 8. Registration required; participants who attend all six sessions will receive a $50 gift card.
Kwanzaa Community Gatherings
29th Kwanzaa Community Celebration
Wednesday, December 27 from 2 to 3 p.m.
Stamford Government Center
Community celebration in observance of the second principle of Kujichagulia (self-determination) featuring Mayor Caroline Simmons. Activities include performances by Henry Jones and Infinite Roots, vocalist Ayanna Doreste, guest speaker Dr. Tichianaa Armah, a poetry reading and light snacks. All ages.
Kwanzaa Celebration
Saturday, December 30 from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.
South End Branch
A celebration of Kwanzaa highlighting the fifth Kwanzaa principle of Nia (purpose). Learn about the cultural holiday, join in the lighting of candles, make a Kwanzaa craft, enjoy African drumming by Baba James Moss and a healthy cooking and food demonstration by Chef Giovanni Green. All ages.

The library's current Storywalk® features Jabari Jumps by Gaia Cornwall. This sweet story about overcoming your fears features a boy who is almost ready to take a leap off a diving board with encouragement from his patient father. Walk the park and read the story.
ONGOING AT THE LIBRARY
Earn Volunteer Hours by Reviewing Books
The Ferguson Library offers volunteer hours to teens in grades 6 to 12 to write book reviews. Reviews will be featured on the library's Youth Instagram page and displayed with reviewed books at the library.
Teens may submit up to two book reviews per week. For each review approved by a librarian, teens will receive one hour of volunteer credit.
Reviews may be edited for clarity and will list the reviewer's first name, last name initial, and grade, unless the reviewer specifies anonymity. Questions? Call 203-351-8242.
By registering for programs, you may receive occasional emails about upcoming events at the library. You can opt out at any time.
