Exploring the Upcoming Summer Learning Program: Find Your Voice

 

Contest requirements:

-Open to Stamford students in grades 6 to 13.

-Entries should be easily reproducible on 8.5x11 white paper and must be labeled in the back with your name, address, phone number, email, school and grade. Computer-generated images are also acceptable.

-Entries are due by April 22.

The winner will receive a $50 gift certificate to Michaels, and the winning drawing will be displayed on all Summer Learning Club materials. Submit entries to the Youth Services Department at the Main Library, or mail to Steve Zampino, Ferguson Library, One Public Library Plaza, Stamford, CT, 06904.

Woman's Self-Defense Workshop

Club Kung Fu of Stamford will lead a female-focused self-defense workshop using the traditional martial art of Wing Tsun focusing on three phases: setting boundaries and assessing the threat; learning the best way to strike using palms, elbows and knees; and defending against chokes, grabs and mounts. Registration required.

Earn Volunteer Hours by Reviewing Books

The Ferguson Library is offering volunteer hours to teens in grades 6 to 12 to write book reviews. Reviews will be featured on the library's Youth Instagram page and displayed with reviewed books at the library.

Teens may submit up to two book reviews per week. For each review approved by a librarian, teens will receive one hour of volunteer credit.

Reviews may be edited for clarity and will list the reviewer's first name, last name initial, and grade, unless the reviewer specifies anonymity. Questions? Call 203-351-8242.
