Florida Democratic Party Statement on Election Results

Government and Politics

November 6, 2024

On Nov 6th, Vice President Kamala Harris delivered a concession speech at Howard University following the re-election of Donald Trump. In response, the Florida Democratic Party issued the following statement:

“Our fight is not over,” said Florida Democratic Party Chair Nikki Fried. “While the results of this election are not what we hoped for, the last thing Florida Democrats are going to do is give up.

“As we reflect on our efforts in this campaign, I know that our fight was worth it. I am immensely proud of every single person who ran for office, worked on a campaign, volunteered, or donated to make this state better because they believed that Florida is worth fighting for. I am grateful to our congressional and legislative candidates running in every seat who refused to let Republicans walk into office without a fight — and finally, I am proud of our newly elected leaders and hard-working Democrats returning to office who will hold the line and fight back.

“Over the next four years, Florida Democrats will continue to organize, mobilize and hold Republicans accountable — because our job is bigger than one election. Our fight to defend freedom and democracy in Florida is our sacred responsibility and the only way we can claw back political power in the Sunshine State is to stay in the fight — the people of our state depend on it.

“As Vice President Kamala Harris said, we must fill the sky with stars. Florida is worth fighting for — that has always been our north star, and it must continue to be in the days to come.”
