Dear Friends,
In this edition of Love & eNews, GLIDE is announcing significant leadership changes, while embracing and celebrating community during the busy holiday season. After more than five years serving GLIDE as President and CEO, Karen Hanrahan will be transitioning from her position. Board member, Malcom Walter, will serve as Interim CEO as GLIDE begins the recruitment process for its next leader. As we cherish Hanrahan's remaining time with GLIDE, we are in full swing with holiday events and welcoming new relationships with community partners. For the family Harvest Dinner, GLIDE collaborated with Farming Hope, a local nonprofit which offers career development opportunities and food security to underserved communities. And, GLIDE looks forward to providing more than 500 bags of toys this upcoming week to families in the Tenderloin. Read on to learn how you can donate and volunteer to help with this special Toy Wonderland event!
A GLIDE Leadership Announcement
This past week, GLIDE announced the resignation of long-time President & CEO Karen Hanrahan. Hanrahan was recruited to the role in 2017, bringing 25 years of expertise in global social innovation, advancing human rights and building high-impact global initiatives around the world. GLIDE Board member Malcolm Walter will serve as Interim CEO. In January 2023, GLIDE will have the opportunity to celebrate her leadership and achievements. "Being the President & CEO of GLIDE for the past five years has been the honor of a lifetime. I am so proud to have built upon the legacy of Rev. Cecil Williams and Janice Mirikitani, guided by GLIDE’s values of unconditional love and radical inclusion." Read the full message from Karen.
Powered by Hope: GLIDE Comes Together in Holiday Celebration
The heart and soul of San Francisco turned out for GLIDE on the evening of November 17. The 2022 GLIDE Annual Holiday Jam: Powered by Hope brought more than 800 supporters and community members to The Masonic to hear a roof-raising musical line-up headlined by original funksters The Family Stone and punctuated with a surprise performance by legendary folk singer-songwriter Joan Baez. Funds raised at Powered by Hope will support GLIDE’s comprehensive services, ranging from overdose prevention to COVID-19, flu, and monkeypox vaccination to free meals. A Perfect Pairing: GLIDE Partners with Farming Hope for the Harvest Dinner
GLIDE’s eagerly awaited Harvest Dinner, held the week before Thanksgiving for the families GLIDE serves in San Francisco, traditionally heralds the start of the holiday season for the GLIDE community. This year, the dinner also marked the debut of a collaboration between GLIDE and Farming Hope, a nonprofit organization that provides culinary apprenticeships for people experiencing employment barriers such as homelessness. GLIDE Launches New Digital Impact Report for Fiscal Year 2021/22
Over the past year, GLIDE continued to expand and evolve amidst the challenges of weathering the COVID-19 pandemic and rising inflation. GLIDE's recently released 2021-22 Impact Report highlights how GLIDE innovated over the last year to extend our reach, combat food insecurity, provide rental assistance, build empathy, and change systems that perpetuate inequity. And, our racial justice and reconciliation programs continued to expand and address racial bias and inequities in healthcare and advanced policy solutions and investments to serve even more individuals and families in need. Please take a look and learn more about GLIDE's ongoing impact in our 2021-22 Impact Report. Read the digital impact report.
Volunteers and Toy Donations Needed for GLIDE's Annual Toy Wonderland!
GLIDE is collecting new toys for children in our community who might otherwise go without this holiday season. In lieu of an in-person event, we have shifted to a delivery model that enables us to safely reach GLIDE’s families, as well as other families from all over San Francisco through our community partners. Please visit our Amazon Wishlist to donate a toy. We are also in need of volunteers from 12/12 - 12/14 to help us pack the toys into more than 500 bags, which will be delivered directly to families from GLIDE programs on 12/15. Sign up to volunteer for a packing shift this week!

Virtual Justice Series, Native American Heritage Month: Watch the Recording!
Last month, the Center for Social Justice Special event "Native American Heritage Month: American Indian Cultural District," featured an engaging group of activists and leaders who discussed the American Indian Cultural District (AICD) and how it is dedicated to recognizing, honoring and celebrating the American Indian legacy, culture, people and contributions. Hosted by CSJ's Senior Director Miguel Bustos, the panel included Mary Travis-Allen, board president of the American Indian Cultural District; Sharaya Souza, executive director of the American Indian Cultural District; and Dr. LaNada Warjack, Ph.D, writer and activist.
