From: Virginia Governor Glenn YoungkinSEOUL, SOUTH KOREA – Governor Glenn Youngkin laid a wreath at the War Memorial of Korea in Seoul, South Korea to pay tribute to Virginia soldiers who lost their lives during the Korean war. Governor Youngkin was joined by the United Nations Command Honor Guard, Sergeant Stephen Causey, and First Lieutenant Daniel Hammel, a homegrown Virginian.
“The War Memorial of Korea serves as a stark reminder that freedom, democracy, and prosperity are often forged and preserved by the generations before us,” said Governor Glenn Youngkin. “I was humbled and grateful to pay my respects to the 750 Virginians that lost their lives in the Korean War, and to reflect on the ultimate sacrifice they made for the preservation of peace.”
During the Korean War, the United States dispatched Ground, Navy, and Air Force support with more than 1.7 million soldiers. In total, tens of thousands of American lives were lost along with hundreds of thousands of Koreans. The War Memorial of Korea recognizes the tremendous sacrifices made from both the United States and South Korea to safeguard the sacred tenants of freedom and liberty.
