Governor Healey Nominates Lauren Reznick as Associate Justice of The Land Court

Boston - On October 9, 2024, Governor Maura Healey nominated Lauren Reznick to serve as an Associate Justice of the Land Court. The nominee will now be considered by the Governor’s Council for confirmation. 

“With nearly two decades of legal experience and eight years at the Land Court, Attorney Reznick is uniquely positioned to join the Land Court’s bench as an Associate Justice,” said Governor Healey. “The people of Massachusetts deserve highly qualified judges with a commitment to justice, and Attorney Reznick’s expertise and wisdom will be assets to to the Court.”

Lauren Reznick has served as the Legal Counsel and Assistant Deputy Court Administrator for the Massachusetts Land Court since 2019 where she advises the Court on a range of legal matters involving real estate, land use law, court operations, procedures, rules and policies. Attorney Reznick is also responsible for delivering legal training and educational programs across the Court while overseeing litigation, lawsuits and complaints. She leads the Court’s Tax Lien Foreclosure Legal Assistance Referral Program in partnership with the Lawyers Clearinghouse and sits on the Massachusetts Supreme Judicial Court’s Committee to Study SJC Rule 3:03, which is the rule that governs law student practice in Massachusetts. Attorney Reznick also serves as the Vice President of Board of the Cambridge Redevelopment Authority, an independent civic real estate entity that works in the public interest to develop urban planning projects and initiatives that promote social equity, affordable housing, and community investment. Previously, Attorney Reznick served as both an Administrative Attorney and Law Clerk for the Massachusetts Land Court. Prior to joining the Land Court, she worked as a Litigation Associate at Ropes & Gray LLP, and Troutman Pepper, and as a Special Assistant District Attorney in the Middlesex District Attorney’s Office.  She also served as a Judicial Clerk for the Honorable Christine O.C. Miller on the United States Court of Federal Claims. She holds a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science from the University of California, Davis and a Juris Doctor from Boston University.

The Land Court hears a wide range of cases involving real estate and land use and oversees the Commonwealth’s system for the registration of title to real property. The Land Court’s mission is to provide an accessible forum where specialized expertise is applied to resolve civil matters and disputes involving the ownership, development, and use of real property. The seven justices of the Land Court primarily sit in Boston, where the Court is based, but also travel to other locations, and hear cases involving real property located in every part of Massachusetts. Additionally, the Land Court hears cases to determine the military status of mortgagors, and the foreclosure and redemption of real estate tax liens. The Land Court also has superintendence authority over the registered land offices in the county Registries of Deeds, and plays an important role in facilitating the transfer of registered land property ownership.
