HARTFORD, CT - Governor Ned Lamont today announced that he has scheduled Tuesday, February 25, 2025, as the date to hold special elections to fill two vacancies in the Connecticut General Assembly. They include:

  • the 21st Senatorial District, which consists of portions of Monroe, Seymour, and Stratford, and the entirety of Shelton, and was most recently held by Kevin Kelly; and
  • the 40th Assembly District, which consists of portions of Groton and New London, and was most recently held by Christine Conley.

Both seats became vacant effective January 7, 2025, upon the resignations of the incumbent officeholders.

Under state law, the governor is required to issue a writ of special election within ten days of a seat in the General Assembly becoming vacant, and a special election must be held 46 days after the writ is issued. Governor Lamont issued the writs for both districts today.
