ANNAPOLIS, MD—Governor Wes Moore today joined Maryland Attorney General Anthony G. Brown, Baltimore City Mayor Brandon M. Scott, Baltimore City State's Attorney Ivan J. Bates, and Morgan State University President Dr. David K. Wilson for a public safety summit moderated by Dr. Jason Johnson. The summit, which engaged students, lawmakers, and business and community leaders from across the city and state, facilitated a solution-driven conversation to foster awareness, influence policy, and help produce results.?

“I have made it tremendously clear that one of my chief responsibilities as an executive is to make our communities safer," said Governor Moore. “Our progress in partnership with the justice system, police, educators, and social support and mental health professionals means we are working together to improve public safety and outcomes for everyone—not only in Baltimore, but throughout Maryland."

Governor Moore's proposed budget to support law enforcement and public safety includes:

    $122 million in aid for local police departments, including $17.5 million dedicated to Baltimore City, and expansion of the Office of the Attorney General and the Office of the Public Defender;

    Nearly $69 million in direct local law enforcement grants;

    $35 million in General Funds for Victims of Crime Act funding;

    $18 million for the Correctional Officers and Parole and Probation Agents retention incentive bonus program; and

    $8 million and more than 40 additional positions to expand the State Police Gun Center and Firearms Licensing Division.
