GREENWICH, CT – Greenwich Democratic Town Committee (GDTC) First Selectperson Candidate and current Board of Estimation and Taxation (BET) member Laura Erickson released the following statement in response to the Republican BET no vote on funding for Old Greenwich School and refusal to take up a vote on Central Middle School last night:
“Central Middle School was on the agenda last evening at the BET meeting, but it was unilaterally pulled. The item was not heard. The Old Greenwich Building Committee came before us requesting construction funding so they can begin their project in July of 2024. Rather than waiting an entire year, which would cost $3 million more, all six BET Republicans voted against the project. It is unfathomable. Their rationale doesn't exist.
Moreover, it is inexcusable for a BET Republican to raise issues of safety during construction that are unfounded. It's an irresponsible act of an elected official to do this. Please vote for all six BET Democrats on November 7th.”
