Monday, February 20

Choice Application Window Closing – Monday is the last day families can apply to enroll their student in a Guilford County Schools (GCS) Choice school. GCS Choice Schools and Programs is a nationwide leader in providing innovative educational options for K-12 students and families. Schools and programs offer students the opportunity to learn the way they learn best and be mentored by passionate and knowledgeable teachers and staff. Each school and program’s design are based on research, best practices, student and family input, and feedback from employers who help the district predict the kinds of professionals they will need. Applications are posted online at gcsnc.schoolmint.net. The application window for Choice schools closes on Feb. 20 at 5 p.m.

Tuesday, February 21

GCS Families Connect Sessions - Superintendent Whitney Oakley continues her “Better Together” listening campaign and invites families of GCS students to share their GCS lived experiences. These engagement sessions will provide time for Dr. Oakley to hear from families and answer questions. The first session will be held at Southwest High School at 5:30 p.m.

Friday, February 24

Eastern High Excellence Expo- Eastern High will be hosting an Excellence Expo in honor of Black History Month. The expo will be a fair and a seminar celebrating Black History, Culture, Excellence, Unity, & Togetherness. The guest speaker will be PJ Hairston, a former Charlotte Hornets Basketball Player and Guilford County Schools alumni. The evening will also feature Job & Career coaches, Fraternity & Sorority Organizations, and MUCH MORE! The event is free and starts at 5:30 p.m.

Cereal Domino Challenge – Southwest Elementary has been collecting cereal boxes for A Simple Gesture. Students were challenged to collect 700 (100 per grade level), and if they reached their goal, staff promised to line them up like dominoes and allow the children to watch. So far students have collected 773 boxes. Set up begins at 12:30 p.m.; the boxes fall at 1:15 p.m.

Saturday, February 25

Dancing with the Stars – Andrews High Principal Marcus Gause will compete at this year’s Dancing with the High Point Stars event. The event is a fundraiser for Communities in Schools of High Point. Doors open at 6 p.m. at the High Point Country Club. Tickets can be purchased on the Communities in Schools of High Point’s website.
