From: Guilford County SchoolsWhat: Guilford County Schools (GCS) will celebrate another major milestone of the $2 billion bonds.
On Monday, October 30, GCS leaders will be joined by students, school board members and county and city officials for a Topping Out ceremony at The Peck Expeditionary Learning School. A Topping Out ceremony is a construction tradition that marks the completion of a building’s frame. The group will sign the last steel beam before it is raised and placed onto the school.
Peck is one of six bond projects currently under construction and will be the first of its kind in Guilford County. Expeditionary Learning is an approach that takes learning beyond the classroom and immerses students in real-world experiences.
When: Monday, October 30, at 10:00 am
Where: Peck Elementary School, 1601 W Florida St., Greensboro
Background: An independent study, funded jointly by the commissioners and school board in 2019, identified more than $2 billion in facility needs in our schools. Following the study, a facilities master plan was developed to address these critical infrastructure needs, including building, rebuilding and fully renovating schools across Guilford County, as well as safety and technology upgrades for schools. Showing a broad base of support, Guilford County voters overwhelmingly approved a $300 million bond referendum in 2020 and a $1.7 billion school bond in 2022 to help fund the facilities master plan that will make a difference for Guilford County students for years to come.
