Dear Friend,

As we near the close of an inspiring year at Harmonium Choral Society, we look back on the powerful music we've shared, the communities we've connected with, and the joy of performing for you. None of this would be possible without the dedication of our staff, board members, singers, and the generous support of friends like you.

2023-2024 HIGHLIGHTS

- East Coast Premiere: December marked a major milestone as we presented the East Coast premiere of Magnificat by Dale Trumbore, a former winner of our composition contest. With your support, we can continue to champion her work as a full-time composer through performances and new commissions.

- New Works and Commemorations: We premiered King John's Christmas by local composer David Thomson, a humorous setting of A.A. Milne's text. Additionally, we celebrated the 10th anniversary of O Come Emmanuel by Mark Miller, unveiling a special version with added strings. With your help, we can bring new works to life and revisit old favorites.

- Collaborations with Young Artists: Our June performance touched hearts and bridged communities with music inspired by young poets from Her Words, a creative writing program that supports underserved teen girls and gender-expansive youth. Your gift will make it possible to continue our work in supporting young and underrepresented voices.

- New Conductor Lab: We launched a new annual Conductor Lab program, giving emerging choral conductors hands-on experience with a volunteer choir and expert guidance from Harmonium's Artistic Director. Your contributions can help us support the next generation of musical leaders.

LOOKING AHEAD TO 2025

Our upcoming season promises even more exciting opportunities to elevate choral music's power to inspire and unite. We continue to highlight cultural diversity in our repertoire and composers that opens the world to our listeners. Here is a preview of what your support can help us accomplish:

- Spring Musicianship Workshop: On May 10, 2025, we will host a workshop led by renowned Latin American conductors and composers Diana Saez and Suzzette Ortiz, focusing on the rich rhythms and songs of Latin American music.

- June Concert on Immigration: In June, our concert will explore themes of immigration and dreams of a better world through classical, contemporary, and newly commissioned works. Our student composers will have access to texts written by local immigrant families about their experiences, as well as public domain poetry that capture stories of resilience and hope. We are collaborating with Wind of the Spirit and Volunteers for Literacy of Morris County

- Emerging Composer in Residence: We're excited to announce a new Emerging Composer in Residence position beginning January 2025, expanding our commitment to supporting new voices in choral music.

- Growing Community of Young Educators: This season, a record number of young teachers and students joined Harmonium, finding a support network and artistic community among like-minded musicians eager to take on creative challenges.
