ALBUQUERQUE - Martin Heinrich’s support for the Green New Deal is a direct threat to New Mexico’s energy sector, which serves as the backbone of our state’s economy. The Green New Deal and similar radical environmental policies that Heinrich champions would cost New Mexico up to 149,000 jobs, devastating communities and families who rely on the energy industry for their livelihoods.

“Heinrich’s support for the Green New Deal shows he is willing to sacrifice New Mexico jobs to appease radical, progressive elites in Washington,” said Republican Party of New Mexico Chairman Steve Pearce. “These policies would be a disaster for New Mexico, driving up energy costs for families while eliminating thousands of good-paying jobs.”

The Green New Deal includes drastic measures that would severely limit oil and gas production—industries vital to New Mexico’s economic stability. Heinrich’s continued opposition to expanding domestic energy production, including oil and gas drilling, demonstrates his commitment to policies that harm the state’s economic future.

In addition to job losses, Heinrich’s radical environmental policies would cause energy prices to skyrocket, placing an additional burden on New Mexican families who are already struggling with inflation and rising costs.

“New Mexicans can’t afford Heinrich’s extreme energy agenda,” Pearce continued. “He’s focused on pushing an out-of-touch, radical climate agenda instead of protecting the jobs and economic future of New Mexico.”
