From: Treasure Coast Food BankDuring our last edition we discussed the 2023 Farm Bill. Whether you are interested in agricultural research, natural disaster assistance, or cotton t-shirts, the Farm Bill plays an active role in your daily life.
As Congress continues to draft this bill, it is important to be mindful of the essential programs that our neighbors and community members rely on. The Farm Bill’s Title IV: Nutrition, contains seven programs, each designed to alleviate the burden of hunger in various ways. These vital programs provide millions of people with timely, nutritious, and affordable foods.
In 2019, SNAP alone fed 40 million people, 43% of which were children. During the last fiscal year, the Feeding America network provided over 1 billion meals with TEFAP foods.
As more Americans find themselves unable to feed their families, it is imperative that our nutrition programs are strengthened in order to relieve this strain and ensure our food banks and community members receive the support they need.
