ARCHITECTURAL PARTS WAREHOUSE ASSISTANT

POSITION: Part time, average of 24 hours / week primarily on Wednesday, Friday and Saturday. Hours can be flexible and varied based on need. The Warehouse is open to the public on Wednesday and Friday (Noon to 6pm) and Saturday (9am to 4pm) each week. Additional hours may be requested to assist with / participate in HAF events and programs.

The Warehouse Assistant should be an experienced “do-it-yourselfer” as well as some knowledge of retail and merchandising with excellent customer service skill, with an interest and passion for historic preservation, recycling, and reuse which is part of the mission of the organization.

Historic Albany Foundation's Lunch & Learn Series

The Erie Canal is a beloved resource in New York State. Albany's portion of the Canal is a bit harder to find.  If you've ever been on our bicycle, barges and beer tours, you'll know just where to find a bit still peeking out along, you guessed it, Erie Boulevard.  On October 26th, engineering professor, Dr. Andrew Wolfe and archaeologist Denis Foley will talk about their work hunting for and excavating North Albany Weigh Lock and Lock 1 of the Enlarged Erie Canal.  They will talk about their research to locate the locks, how they approached digging them up, and what they found!

Schedule of Events for Built 2023

This year we will once again hold BUILT at the restored Argus Hotel on Thurlow Terrace in Albany.  This beautiful boutique hotel sits on Washington Park and features an event space and cocktail bar. The opening will take place on Thursday, November 2nd and the event will run until Sunday, November 5th.

What is BUILT?

Each year Historic Albany Foundation welcomes the community in celebrating our region’s unique architecture at a 4-day silent auction and art show. We invite everyone to enjoy and bid on up to 200 pieces of architecturally themed art - from paintings to photographs, sculpture to jewelry.  This year we will once again be hosted at the beautiful Argus Hotel on Thurlow Terrace in Albany and will be offering a ticketed opening reception, pay-what-you-wish evening soiree,  and open gallery hours free to the public. The event will run from November 2 - 5. Proceeds from this event support our organization’s mission of protecting Albany’s architecture.

Please note all bidding will be done online. Winners - if you have won your bid we will be notified via email. Please check your bidding profile to see if you have won. Pick-up for the pieces will be on Tuesday 7th between 10 am and 6 pm at the Argus.

What's New in the Warehouse?

Mantels, Mantels and More Mantels!
For your holiday decorating and stocking hanging needs... we have almost every kind of mantel in stock... painted wood, unpainted wood, painted slate and more!  

We've got the market cornered on corner sinks! 
We currently have the largest inventory of bath fixtures we have had in a very long time ... tubs, toilets and sinks. We have a nice variety of corner sinks and smaller pedestal sinks that are perfect for that little half bath. Rumor has it the sink on the right made its way into the film version of Ironweed! All fixtures have been cleaned, sized and priced to find their new home.

Railings Galore!
We currently have four matching sets of iron railings - a rare occurrence indeed.

Churchill Ceramics
Now for something completely different... vintage 1970's Churchill ceramics. Matching coffee and tea pots, gravy boat and covered casserole. You know you need them for Thanksgiving entertaining!

16 Preservation Briefs

The NPS has issued new guidance on historic buildings and the use of substitute materials. The new guidance provides additional direction as well as technical preservation information on when a different material than the historic one may be appropriately used to replace a deteriorated or missing historic feature, consistent with the Secretary of the Interior’s Standards for Rehabilitation.

Seed Swap and Winter Sowing Workshop

Seed swap: 10 am - 10:30 am and 11:00 to Noon*

Shaker Heritage Society

Winter sowing is a great way to produce seedlings, and you don’t need indoor space or fancy equipment. The workshop will be presented by Cornell Cooperative Extension Master Gardeners Janet Given Chen and Kathryn Adams Harter.

Before and after the presentation, participants are welcome to bring seeds to swap with other gardeners. Participants are not required to attend both the workshop and seed swap events.
