From: Historic Albany Foundation$1.7M Awarded in Grants for 48 Hudson Restoration
Historic Albany is thrilled to announce that we have been awarded two major grants for our restoration work at 48 Hudson. The National Endowment for the Humanities has awarded $500,000 through its Infrastructure and Capacity Building program and the New York State Council on the Arts has awarded $1,226,000 through its Capital Projects program.
To say we are both honored and ecstatic is a gross understatement. We could not be more proud that our preservation project has such generous support.
With these two awards, we have now received the anticipated grant funds needed. The remaining funds will come through the sale of $945,000 of rehabilitation tax credits. You can help us leverage these millions of dollars in federal and state grant funds by investing in the project (see more about the Tax Credit Workshop below)
The National Endowment for the Humanities (NEH) is an independent federal agency created in 1965. It is one of the largest funders of humanities programs in the United States. NEH grants typically go to cultural institutions, such as museums, archives, libraries, colleges, universities, public television, and radio stations, and to individual scholars.
The restoration of the Van Ostrande-Radliff House at 48 Hudson Ave is made possible by the New York State Council on the Arts with the support of the Office of the Governor and the New York State Legislature.
#Feast2023 - Thank You!
Our Most Well-Attended and Successful Feast Yet!
Wow! We are still in awe of how many of you supported our annual gala, #Feast2023, last Saturday. We are still in the process of putting the final figures together, but so far we can announce that thanks to you all, we raised nearly $12,000 through the virtual auction! We also had over 290 guests in-person at the event - more than we have ever had before. Thank you, truly, to everyone who supported this event, including our wonderful committee chairs and members, our intern MyAsia Wiggins, and all the sponsors, bidders, and attendees.
48 Hudson Virtual Tax Credit Workshop
Virtual Session coming up - Open to the Public
As many of you have seen in our newsletters this year, HAF is using the Federal and NYS Rehabilitation Tax Credit for a portion of our funding to restore the Van Ostrande-Radliff House. Since we are a not-for-profit, we cannot use or take the credits, but we can sell them. We are taking a unique approach and crowd-funding our tax credits which means that we can have a lot of smaller investors instead of one big lending institution that will buy them all. This enables anyone that wants to be a part of the project to do so.
But... What Are Rehabilitation Tax Credits?
Rehabilitation tax credits are income based tax credits where you get a credit on your NYS and/or Federal annual income taxes based on the amount spent rehabilitating a historic building.
For 48 Hudson, $.74 will get you $1 of NYS income tax credit and $.84 will get you $1 of Federal income tax credit.
Whether or not being a tax credit investor is right for you is a decision you should make with your tax or financial advisor. Join us for a workshop about investing in the restoration at 48 Hudson on Wednesday, May 5th at 5:30 on zoom to learn more about how this all works.
On Wednesday, May 3rd from 5:30 to 7 pm on Zoom, we are hosting a workshop on the 48 Hudson tax credits to explain what they are, how it all works, and how you can become an investor in the restoration of Albany's oldest building.

This week Pam Howard our Executive Director attended the President's Awards at the University at Albany where our colleague and friend Dave Hochfelder received an award for Exemplary Public Engagement. In addition to being an Associate History Professor at the University, Dave is the researcher behind the blog and website 98 Acres which chronicles urban renewal in New York State.
Many of you may recall Dave was the keynote speaker at our Matthew Bender IV Fall Lecture last October where we presented a panel discussion commemorating the 60th anniversary of the approval to build the Empire State Plaza. This summer Dave will be assisting HAF with their archive project in preparation for our move to 48 Hudson and 50th anniversary next year. Congratulations Dave!

Know What Someone Should Invent?
A Lazy Susan for books. Oh, wait, they did! (And of course, it was Midcentury folks who did it, as they were already fully embracing the traditional Lazy Susan.)
This one measures 2 feet in diameter by 34 ½” tall and features four book cubbies in a revolving section atop a sculptural center column and of course that wonderful MCM simplicity of design. It also easily comes apart making for easy transport. We’ve never seen anything quite like it!
$30
