Window on Albany
Custom Windows available to bid on
Historic Albany has asked individuals and groups located in Albany to create a depiction of the city via any medium (poetry, prose, architectural drawings, maps, representations of buildings/people). The only requirement? That they are created using a salvaged window from our Architectural Parts Warehouse.
These one-of-a-kind pieces will be available to bid on for attendees of the event. We will be releasing further details about the donors of these items soon.
Salvage from the
Ann Lee Nursing Home
Shaker Heritage Society
The Ann Lee Home, situated between the historic Shaker Site and the Albany International Airport was to be demolished this week. It got a short stay of execution because of Tuesday’s impending snow storm.
And, while Historic Albany Foundation hates to see any building sit vacant for years only to see its demise via demolition, the County of Albany did reach out to us to salvage. Our Warehouse Manager Dave Ritrovato, along with a crew of volunteers was able to go onsite this past Monday to rescue what architectural items best fit our inventory needs.
Built in the late 1920s and named for the founder of the first Shaker settlement in the United States, the Ann Lee Home has sat vacant since 2008. Despite being on the Shaker Heritage Society site, the Ann Lee Home was not built by the Shakers. And, despite its name, Ann Lee did not live there. She died at the site in 1784 and is buried just a few hundred yards away. Albany County named the nursing home as a way to honor the Shaker community’s founder.

The data updates in real time, and in the future will also allow the public to submit registrations and permits.
