It was the gods who decided that Jose, a Tzotzil Mayan man, would become a musician. He learned of this divine gift in dreams (or vaychiletik) and accepted the responsibility to play during his community's sacred festivities. But this destiny can sometimes feel like curse for Jose, who has been tempted to abandon his duty. Yet the threat of an unimaginable punishment prevents him from walking that path. Behind the camera sits Jose's son, director Juan Javier Perez, who has been part of his father's godly ordeal for his entire life, and who has decided to immortalize his people's worldview via mesmerizing images.

As an Indigenous Tzotzil man, Sero has always existed between two cultures and languages, and now through cinema he explores all the aspects of who he is. In this intimate portrait of the suffering that happens in silence and the ways in which children sometimes fail to acknoleged their parents' humanity, the filmmaker looks at his family's wounds perhaps not to heal them but to understand them.

But the more Fatima follows their advice to follow the latest trends, the more her online persona gains virulent haters who mock her for craving attention at her age. What they don't know, is that Fatima more than what they see on their cell phone screens.

A Tarahumara woman, Rita left her community in northern Mexico in the early 1980s and walked across the border all the way to Kansas. Throughout this time, her identity and even the language she speaks was unknown to the medical authorities. Now back in her hometown, the horrific episode still haunts her and her loved ones. This visually striking documentary opens a window into Rita's inner world.
