"ThoseWhoExcel"Recipients Honored

The Illinois State Board of Education (ISEBE) announced the recipients of this year's "Those Who Excel" awards, including several from District 153. These awards celebrate incredible classroom teachers, administrators, teams, volunteers, and school support personnel who have made lasting impacts on the students, families, and fellow educators in their school communities. ISBE will celebrate the awardees at a banquet on April 29.

Willow School celebrated all things 100 on the 100th Day of School, Feb. 8th: counting to 100, building with 100 blocks, and identifying words by the hundreds. And of course, the school hosted the most adorable "centenarians" and construction crews that day.

Churchill School Black History Month Museum , Feb. 16th

Churchill School is proud to announce the return of the Black History Month Museum night. This year's theme is "Celebrating Black Creativity Through the Arts." Please mark your calendar for Thursday, February 16, 2023, from 5-7 pm. The evening will feature:

- live musical performances
- a drum circle
- local black-owned businesses pop-up shop (variety of payment types but consider bringing cash)
- 3D make-and-take artwork
- special celebrity guests
- displays of student projects

The Daily Living Skills classes from all three schools explored our community on Feb. 9th. The day started at Blueberry Hill for breakfast where they practiced reading menus and good manners. Then they headed over to the Homewood Post Office where they mailed the valentines they created (more reading and writing!) and took great care to address correctly.
