ANNAPOLIS, MD – Last week, Governor Wes Moore toured various locations in Washington County, reinforcing the Moore-Miller administration’s commitment to making Maryland safer, more affordable, more competitive, and the state that serves. Over two days, the governor visited the Washington County Public Safety Training Center and the Hagerstown Regional Airport, attended a Hagerstown Boxcars baseball game, and met with Washington County elected officials. The visit concluded with a ribbon-cutting ceremony at the new Conair Distribution Center, which will add 700 jobs to Maryland’s economy within 10 years and will be one of the largest single distribution centers in the state.

"Presence matters -- and I was proud to be in Mountain Maryland with county and local officials to discuss how we strengthen partnerships across all parts of the state," said Gov. Moore. "By working together, we've been able to uplift our transportation assets, create jobs, make Maryland safer, and position our state to win the decade. Partnership produces progress, and Washington County is on the move."

On Thursday, Governor Moore toured the Hagerstown Regional Airport and Museum with county and city officials. In 2022, the Biden-Harris Administration created a comprehensive national strategy for implementing the Advanced Aerial Mobility Act to shape the future of aerial transportation in the United States. In partnership with Washington County, the Moore-Miller Administration is identifying ways to establish the regional airport as a key location for Advanced Aerial Mobility activities in the state.

Governor Moore later attended the Hagerstown Flying Boxcars vs. Gastornia Honey Hunters baseball game at the new Meritus Park. The governor delivered brief remarks and was joined by team owners and leadership, county and city officials, and local business leaders.

On Friday morning, Governor Moore joined police cadets, first responders and Washington County commissioners at the new Washington County Public Safety Training Center. The state-of-the-art facility provides space for different public safety disciplines to work and train together in simulated real-life emergency situations and is home to the Washington County Police Academy. The Moore-Miller Administration invested more than $2.2 million in the facility project.

Governor Moore concluded his visit by attending the ribbon cutting ceremony for the Conair Distribution Center in Hagerstown. First announced in October 2023, the facility will help increase the amount of commerce that flows through the Port of Baltimore by about 600 containers per month — reinforcing the importance of the Port of Baltimore to Maryland’s economy. The state contributed a $2 million conditional loan and Washington County contributed a $200,000 conditional loan to the project.
