A reminder that while JCPRD’s 50 Plus programs are primarily for people who are age 50 or older, interested parties who have not yet reached that magic age may still be able to attend. Persons 18 and older who are interested in a 50 Plus class are invited to call the 50 Plus Department at 913-826-2975 for space availability.

Here’s a sampling of programs JCPRD has coming up for the week of April 2-8:

April 3, 5 - Yoga: Yoga (Ages 14 & Older)

Mill Creek Activity Center, 6518 Vista Dr., Shawnee, Mondays or Wednesdays, 5:30 to 6:20 p.m., 6 sessions, $48 per person, $53 nonresidents 

LOW INTENSITY: Improve circulation, regulate your metabolism, and increase flexibility and coordination with this Yoga class. You will lengthen your muscles while increasing both muscle and bone density. Yoga participants of all levels are welcome. Join us for this class and find out all the benefits of yoga in your life. April 3 - Pickleball: Pickleball 102 (Ages 18 & Older)

Meadowbrook Park Pickleball Courts, 9101 Nall Ave., Prairie Village, Mondays, Noon to 1:30 p.m., 4 sessions, $47 per person, $51 nonresidents

April 4 - Games: Virtual Scattergories® (Ages 50 & Older)

Virtual Program, 10 to 11 a.m., FREE

Think fast and write quicker in this fun and fast-paced game of alliterative words and categories!  Zoom link will be emailed the day prior to the program. Zoom information is also on the receipt notes. Activity number 24504.

April 4 - Gardening: Colorful Shade Gardens Beyond Hostas (Ages 50 & Older)

Virtual Program, 2 to 3 p.m., FREE 

Shade gardens can be the most challenging to plant. We tend to want colorful gardens year-round and the most colorful plants tend to need full sun. The shade garden can be productive and beautiful, we just need to change our mindset by respecting the principle of having the right plants for the right place. Activity number 24289.

April 5 - Yoga: Rise and Shine Yoga (Ages 16 & Older)

Ernie Miller Nature Center, 909 N. Kansas 7 Highway, Olathe, Wednesdays, 6 to 7 a.m., 4 sessions, $32 per person, $35 nonresidents

Start your day with an invigorating yoga practice at Ernie Miller Nature Center. This is yoga for anybody. All are welcome, no experience necessary! This class will focus on gentle stretching, serenity, and rejuvenation, and will be tailored to individual abilities. Please bring your mat to class. Meet at the parking lot flagpole to walk into the building together at 6 a.m. Instructor is Experienced Registered Yoga Teacher Robin Olson. Activity number 24483.

April 5 & 19 - Preschool Storytime: Animal Tales (Ages 2-6 with an Adult)

Ernie Miller Nature Center, 909 N. Kansas 7 Highway, Olathe, select Wednesdays, 10:30 to 11 a.m., $3 per person

Join a park naturalist for animal stories and surprises geared for preschool age children. Come listen, learn, and meet a special animal friend every time. All children must be accompanied by a paying adult. Program held indoors. April 5 session, Silly Spider, activity number 24704; April 19 session, Animal Home, activity number 24705.

April 7 - Museum: Kids' Day Out (Ages 6-10)

Johnson County Museum at Johnson County Arts & Heritage Center, 8788 Metcalf Ave., Overland Park, 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., $38 per person

Come have fun when school is out! Discover history through hands-on activities and exploration of KidScape and museum exhibits, play games, and enjoy down time. Bring a lunch, snacks, and water bottle and dress for the weather - we will go outside if we can. We are open from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., but you may drop off and pick up at any time. April 7 - Art: Homeschool Painting (Ages 11-16)

Johnson County Arts & Heritage Center, 8788 Metcalf Ave., Overland Park, Fridays, 1 to 3 p.m., 4 sessions, $97 per person, $106 nonresidents

Intermediate to advanced painters will hone their painting skills with this four class intensive series. This class is for students who have experience with painting and are looking to take their skills to the next level with focused instruction. Activity number 24091.

April 7 - Friday Night Dance Date Night - Swing (Ages 16 & Older)

Johnson County Arts & Heritage Center, 8788 Metcalf Ave., Overland Park, 7 to 9 p.m., $10 per person

This program presents a chance each month to try a new style of dance with a friend or partner. Swing is the style for this month. The final session on May 5 will feature Salsa Dance. Activity number 25971.

April 7 - Nature & Outdoors: Family Night Hike (Ages 6 & Older )

Ernie Miller Nature Center, 909 N. Kansas 7 Highway, Olathe, 7:30 to 9 p.m., $9 per person, $10 nonresidents

Visit the habitats of Ernie Miller Park on this guided hike as the sun sets and the animals of the night explore the darkness. See live animals and biofacts up close indoors before our trek outside. Bring a flashlight or lantern and dare yourself to turn off the light for a portion of our walk. Dress for the weather and wear comfortable shoes. Waterproof shoes are recommended for rain or mud. April 7  - Geocaching: Egg Hunt Geocache (All Ages)

Antioch Park, 6501 Antioch Rd., Merriam, 10 to 11 a.m., 11 a.m. to Noon, or Noon to 1 p.m., $7 per person, $8 nonresidents

This modern-day scavenger hunt is a great way to spend time with the family out in your local park. Each group is loaned one GPS device and given instructions on how to find the caches hidden around Antioch Park. Caches are filled with Easter Eggs that are exchanged in for candy. Meet at Shelter #2. The Bunny will be available for photos from 11:15 a.m. -11:45 a.m. 10 a.m. session, activity number 24519. 11 a.m. session, activity number 24520. Noon session, activity number 24521.

April 8 - Lanesfield Historic Site - Open Hours (All Ages)

18745 S. Dillie Road, Edgerton, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on the second Saturday of each month, FREE

The limestone schoolhouse, the last remaining structure in the former town of Lanesfield, is the oldest operating schoolhouse in Johnson County. Students attended from 1869 - 1963 when the school closed. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1988. The site today includes the original schoolhouse, four outbuildings, and a modern visitor center that houses the exhibit One-Room Schools in Kansas, a museum store, and restrooms.
