From: Branigan Cultural CenterJoin us for a newly revised history exhibit at the Branigan Cultural Center, Las Cruces: Crossroads of History. This exhibition tells the overarching history of Las Cruces and its prominent place in Borderland history from prehistory through the 1960s. The exhibition opens September 8th and will be on display through the Summer of 2024.
Using original artifacts and historic photographs, Las Cruces: Crossroads of History charts the history of the region from its early indigenous inhabitants to its settlement by Mexicans and to its shift to being a part of the United States in 1848. The establishment and growth of Las Cruces is followed via multiple topics including Civil War soldiers, ranchers, and outlaws. The introduction of the railroad in 1878 and its impact is covered as well as New Mexico statehood in 1912. The exhibit ends with the impact of World War II and the nuclear and rocket technology that followed it.
The museum is located at 501 N. Main St. and is open Tuesday through Friday from 10am to 4:30pm and Saturday 9am to 4:30pm. There is no admission charge. The museum is accessible from RoadRUNNER Transit Route 1 Stop 1. For additional information, visit the website at https://www.lascruces.gov/museums or call (575)541-2154.
