What does it mean to truly thrive as we age? At Lifetime Arts, we believe that creativity holds the key. This summer, we’ve been asking ourselves - and our partners - how we can deepen our impact and broaden access to the transformative power of creative aging together. Whether you’re already part of this journey or just curious, we’re excited to share the strides we’ve made together and the opportunities that lie ahead. Read on to discover more about what we’ve been up to!

The Creative Aging Collaborative is Launching This October!

For years, our trainees have been asking for a way to stay connected with us and fellow creative aging practitioners across the country. This October, we’re making it possible with the soft launch of our new online community of practice, The Creative Aging Collaborative (Co-Lab)! This lively hub is for program staff, teaching artists, and administrators who’ve completed our Creative Aging Foundations Training. It’s the perfect place to keep learning, share real talk, swap advice, and get inspired by fellow Co-Lab members, guest speakers, and Lifetime Arts staff.

We are currently offering a pre-launch membership discount for organizations who sign up before October 1st. Connect with us today by completing the brief form below and get early access to the Co-Lab for your staff!

Drumming Up Creative Aging Opportunities Across Arts and Health!

In June, Lifetime Arts staff and our state agency partners facilitated convenings in Idaho, Nevada, Montana, Utah, and Wyoming aimed at expanding creative aging throughout the five states as part of the Advancing Creative Aging in the Western States Initiative. Organizations and practitioners from various sectors collaborated on strategies to build cross-sector connections, seek grant opportunities, and advocate for creative aging at the state level. Our fall Creative Aging Resource Journal will highlight key insights and reflections from our state partners on this initiative. PROGRAM SPOTLIGHT

“This is my happy place. The people in the class are so supportive of each other and the teacher is such an encouraging person.”

Our work with public libraries is transforming access to the arts, tackling loneliness, and addressing ageism across communities. Kristi Heise, a retired nurse, stepped out of her comfort zone to join a drawing program at Cape Girardeau Public Library. Despite macular degeneration, she rediscovered her passion for art through the teaching artists’ guidance, proving that creativity knows no bounds. Learn more about Kristi and this program in The Cash-Book Journal article linked below!

Reaching New Heights in Our Strategic Plan

Throughout the last year, Lifetime Art’s board and staff have been hard at work on a strategic plan that will expand our scope and guide us into the next phase of our organization's development. Earlier this month, our staff traveled to upstate New York to continue this work together, catch up on life, and dream as big as the Catskill Mountains! We’re proud of the work we’ve been doing to respond to the needs of the growing creative aging movement, and we can’t wait to share our vision for the future with you later this year - on a brand new website. Stay tuned!

NYC Premiere: New Documentary on Aging + Q&A

Friday 8/23-Sunday 8/25 at DCTV Firehouse in Chinatown

At Lifetime Arts, we often talk about embracing aging as a time of continued learning, growth, and celebration. That doesn’t mean papering over the rough parts of growing older - it means savoring the moment we are in, cherishing old and new friendships, and never losing the lens of curiosity through which we see the world. In this spirit, we thought our New York readers would be interested in these screenings of Director Ralph Arlyck’s new documentary film, I Like It Here, a moving reflection on the experience of aging and the preciousness of life itself. Watch the trailer, view screening times, and purchase tickets on DCTV’s site.
