From: Yolo County GovernmentLoCI Controls, Inc. Partners with Yolo County Landfill to Reduce Greenhouse Gas Emissions
(Woodland, CA) – The Yolo County Central Landfill (YCCL) is proud to announce its partnership with LoCI Controls, Inc., the leading real-time data, and control technology company that focuses on increasing methane capture and reducing emissions from landfills. This new collaboration signifies YCCL's commitment to environmental stewardship and innovation.
The YCCL currently operates a gas collection system that effectively captures methane from the decomposing closed landfill units. The collected methane is then converted to electricity at YCCL's power plant and sold to the Sacramento Municipality Utility District (SMUD). In order to further optimize the gas collection process, YCCL has chosen to implement LoCI's patented technology, which includes on-site measurement systems and cloud-based software. LoCI’s advanced system will capture real-time data to drive action and allow for automatic fine-tuning of the gas well-heads, ensuring continuous optimization of the gas collection process.
By incorporating LoCI Controls' system, YCCL aims to surpass the required levels of methane capture and go above and beyond in reducing greenhouse gas emissions. This initiative aligns with Yolo County's vision for environmental sustainability and demonstrates its commitment to driving positive change.
Supervisor Oscar Villegas, Chair of the Yolo County Board of Supervisors, expressed his enthusiasm for the partnership, stating, "Yolo County continues to be a leader in environmental stewardship and innovation, and we are excited to collaborate with LoCI on their first project at a California landfill, following their success across the country."
LoCI Controls is equally enthusiastic about the partnership, with Peter Quigley, CEO and Chairman, emphasizing the company's dedication to supporting Yolo County's goals. He stated, "The LoCI team is thrilled to partner with Yolo County for this groundbreaking project in California. By installing the LoCI Controls system, we can help Yolo County reduce greenhouse gas emissions, enhance site productivity, and minimize EHS risks. We forward to making a tangible impact for Yolo County."
LoCI plans to have its system up and running by July 1 in Yolo County, which will run for one year with the possibility to extend for an additional two years.
LoCI Controls' system at YCCL is scheduled to be operational by July 1. The initial implementation will run for one year, with the possibility of extending it for an additional two years, further optimizing methane capture and emission reduction efforts.
