The Luscious Costumes of Romeo and Juliet

If you're a fan of the wardrobe in period pieces like "The Gilded Age" or "Bridgerton," you'll love the costumes in our production of Romeo and Juliet. As preparations for this Gounod-meets-Shakespeare classic are underway, we spoke to costume designer Tim Goodchild about the inspiration behind these beautiful creations. Romeo and Juliet Debuts

This season is a packed with debuts, and just like with Madame Butterfly, our production of Gounod's Romeo and Juliet is filled with newcomers to LA Opera.

From 2022's second-place Operalia winner, Duke Kim, to one of classical music's most celebrated conductors, Domingo Hindoyan, the amount of talent in this debut list cannot be understated. Gustavo Santaolalla on Dracula

Be sure to pack your wooden stakes and garlic because Dracula will be returning to the big screen with us this October! Even better, this will be what movie buffs think is the superior version of the film (in Spanish and English subtitles) plus it features a new score created by Oscar-winning composer Gustavo Santaolalla (The Last of Us, Brokeback Mountain, Babel). We sat down with Santaolalla to talk about his inspiration for the score and how he plans to implement foley (movie sounds effects) into the music.
