PROCLAMATION IN OBSERVANCE OF NATIONAL FALLEN FIREFIGHTERS MEMORIAL WEEKEND

Whereas, firefighters embody the highest ideals of bravery and sacrifice, and their willingness to face danger for the protection of others stands as one of the most noble callings in our society; and

Whereas, each year, courageous firefighters in the State of Delaware, and across the United States, make the ultimate sacrifice while protecting lives, property, and communities from fire and other emergencies; and

Whereas, National Fallen Firefighters Memorial Weekend honors the memory of those brave men and women who have died in the line of duty; and

Whereas, this weekend serves as a time for families, colleagues, and communities to come together in remembrance, reflection, and gratitude for the service and heroism of these fallen firefighters; and

Whereas, I am proud to honor those who have given their lives in service by renewing our commitment to the safety, training, and support of all firefighters and first responders.

Now, Therefore, I, Matthew Meyer, Governor,
do hereby declare May 3 – May 4, 2025, as
NATIONAL FALLEN FIREFIGHTERS MEMORIAL WEEKEND

in the State of Delaware, and encourage all citizens to join in honoring the memory of our fallen heroes and recognizing the ongoing service of our nation’s fire service community.
