Maine Dems Statement On Second Congressional District Debate

Government and Politics

October 7, 2024

Maine Democratic Party Chair Bev Uhlenhake released the following statement:

“Austin Theriault says federal protections for abortion, contraception, and IVF aren’t necessary because ‘the states are voting,’ but he and every other Republican in the Maine Legislature voted against Mainers’ right to choose.

“Austin campaigned with Speaker Mike Johnson, an anti-abortion extremist, and his first vote in Congress would be for House Republican leadership that backs a total national abortion ban with zero protections for IVF and contraception and zero exceptions for rape and incest.

“Mainers can’t trust Austin Theriault to stand up for our personal freedoms, and on November 5 we’ll choose to re-elect Jared Golden and send a real leader back to Washington D.C. to keep fighting on behalf of all Mainers.”
