From: Maverick Concerts Summer Chamber Music FestivalWe are eager to invite you back for another extraordinary season of performances at Maverick Concerts this summer! You won't want to miss our amazing lineup of artists and programs, featuring some of the finest performers of classical, jazz and contemporary music. And all of this takes place in the stunning Maverick Concert Hall surrounded by enchanting woodlands.
The 2024 season opens on June 29th with the Fred Hersh Trio; Hersh has been described by Vanity Fair as “the most arrestingly innovative pianist in jazz over the last decade.” On Sunday, the Manhattan Chamber Players will return and be performing works by Ravel, Harold Meltzer, Debussy and Jean Cras.
In our Chamber Music Festival for 2024 we explore the profound influence of East Asian culture on French music in the years before World War I, and the tremendous activity of musicians and composers of East Asian heritage working and transforming American classical music today. Highlights of the summer will include a rare and extensive exploration of the solo piano music of Fauré, as well as the brilliant young Vietnamese-American composer Viet Cuong serving as the festival’s composer in residence this July.
Throughout the summer, you will have the chance to hear some of the most acclaimed classical musicians in the world, such as the Escher, Miro, Isidore, Pacifica and Ariel quartets along with WindSync, Margaret Leng Tan and Chelsea Guo among others performing music of Beethoven, Mozart, Schumann, Rameau, Chopin, Glass, Copland and Debussy and other beloved composers of the classical canon along with composers representing our focus on East Asian-American creators and the Music of France.
This summer our Saturday Jazz series features a return of the brilliant piano trios of both Fred Hersch and Bill Charlap as well as the Maverick debut of the Miguel Zenón Quartet. Multiple Grammy Nominee and Guggenheim and MacArthur Fellow Miguel Zenón is widely considered as one of the most groundbreaking and influential saxophonists and composers of his generation.
We also celebrate Woodstock's rich contemporary musical history with special shows by Tracy Bonham, the Simon Shaheen Trio, Steve Gornwith Vinay Desai and Samir Chatterjee; and Happy Traum with Cindy Cashdollar and Friends.
Saturday August 10th will see a double-header concert in celebration of the Woodstock legend, composer, music humorist and long-time Maverick trustee, Peter Schickele, a.k.a. “P.D.Q. Bach”, who passed away this winter.
Don't miss the opportunity this summer to experience some of the best live music in a historic venue set in a serene, wooded landscape - and this year accompanied by food from the Phoenicia Diner on Saturday and Sunday along with wine, beer and cocktails.
And please come and visit us at our pre-season Open House on Saturday, June 15th from noon to 5PM. And don't forget for those budding audience members of the future and parents of the present, there is a full season of free Maverick Family Saturdays with music and fun activities from 11am-noon throughout the summer.
This is just a glimpse of what awaits you at Maverick Concerts this summer.
We look forward to seeing you soon!
