Celebrating the Heart of Meals on Wheels: The Volunteers!

April is National Volunteer Month, and we're shining a spotlight on the incredible people who make the Meals on Wheels mission possible. Volunteers do so much more than deliver meals — they bring companionship, care and a reminder to our homebound seniors that they are never alone

This month, supporters from across the country helped us say “thank you” by signing our digital thank-you card, and we heard heartwarming stories from the volunteers who keep the wheels in motion, including actor Tiffani Thiessen! Interested in volunteering yourself? Check to see if a local provider near you could use a hand.

Crafting for a Cause

On April 5, crafters across the country picked up their needles for the annual Knit for Food Knit-a-thon and the results were extraordinary. This 12-hour event raised over $530,000 to fight hunger, with $132,710 going to Meals on Wheels America to help End the Wait™ for home-delivered meals. We’re honored to be one of the benefiting organizations and grateful to everyone who stitched with purpose. We’re already looking forward to next year’s event!

A Toast to Togetherness

Bolla, the iconic Italian winery, has joined Meals on Wheels America in our shared belief that meals have the power to bring people together. As part of this first-ever partnership, Bolla will donate $25,000 between April and June to support our End the Wait campaign — helping ensure that no senior waits alone or hungry. Cheers to making sure every senior who needs Meals on Wheels gets it!

The High Price of Cuts to Meals on Wheels

"Some of our programs are already operating on razor-thin budgets and are pulling from their reserves. [If funding goes away], it could result in some programs having to close their doors."

 – Ellie Hollander, President and CEO of Meals on Wheels America

As federal funding cuts loom, the future of Meals on Wheels and the health and independence of millions of seniors are at risk. Programs already stretched to their limits could be forced to cut back, add seniors to waitlists or even close their doors. Learn why these cuts could have life-and-death consequences — and why now, more than ever, Meals on Wheels needs your voice and support.

Next week, Ellie Hollander, CEO and President of Meals on Wheels America, your advocacy team and board members will be on Capitol Hill meeting with Members of Congress and staff, emphasizing the importance of Meals on Wheels programs and the harm of cutting funding for these services.
