Celebrating the Topping Off of Our New Home

Construction Milestone Reached

Last week, we celebrated the topping off of our future home, the David E. and Stacey L. Goel Center for Creativity & Performance! A.R.T. staff joined members of the design, construction, and project management teams to sign the last piece of timber before it was lifted into place.

“I am filled with deep gratitude for the extraordinary dedication, creativity, and collaboration that have brought us to this milestone. Each project partner and advisor has embraced A.R.T.’s commitment to regenerative design, going beyond sustainability to create a space that actively gives back to our community and environment,” said Terrie and Bradley Bloom Artistic Director Diane Paulus. “The Goel Center for Creativity & Performance will stand as a thriving example of how performance spaces can nurture both people and the planet for generations to come.”

To minimize its lifetime carbon impact, the new building is constructed with laminate mass timber, reclaimed brick, and cedar cladding. More than 2,000 individual mass timber components have been installed as columns, beams, floors, walls, stairways, and elevator shafts. Included among these are 15 mega trusses delivered as single pieces from Canada, each measuring 70 feet long, 10 feet high, and weighing nearly 30,000 pounds!

Special thanks to our partners Haworth Tompkins, ARC / Architectural Resources Cambridge, Charcoalblue, and Shawmut Design and Construction.
