Service Outage

MARINet Scheduled Outage on January 11th

On Wednesday, January 11th, the Library's catalog software will migrate to the cloud. While migration is underway, many library services will not work. These services may be unavailable much of the day.  

If you bring your library card, we can manually check out your books (including holds) and other physical items. Note: You MUST have your library card to check out items. 

What won't work:

MARINet catalog including searching for books, placing holds, and checking or managing your account

Most e-resources including ebooks, Kanopy, and databases including Consumer Reports 

What will work:

Library Wi-Fi

Tech Center computers

Chinese-American Literature Book Club

This book club is a joint effort between the Mill Valley Library and Mamahuhu Chinese-American Restaurant to showcase the literature of Chinese and Chinese-American authors. Join us for a thoughtful discussion about culture, language, heritage, and belonging. 

This book club is open to all and meets the 4th Monday of each month at Mamahuhu Restaurant. 

This month we'll be discussing Stories of Your Life and Others by Ted Chiang.

True Crime Writing Workshop

Have you always wanted to delve into true crime writing but haven't been sure where to start? Join author Paul Drexler for this special, two-hour writing workshop on the ins and outs of true crime.  

Paul Drexler has been a San Francisco-based crime writer for over 30 years and his column, “Notorious Crooks” appeared regularly in the Sunday San Francisco Examiner and has been featured as an authority on San Francisco murderesses, the Barbary Coast and the Zodiac Killer. In 2017 Paul received the Oscar Lewis Award from the San Francisco History Association for his writing on San Francisco history.

Mending Meetup

Do you have an old sweater or pair of pants that could use some TLC? Come mend with us! Bring items in need of buttons, hems, patches, darning, etc and give your best-loved clothes a second life. Feel free to bring your own mending supplies or use ours, free of charge! 

This program is open to adults with any level of craftiness or sewing experience. Participants will have the opportunity to learn and share with one another and have the assistance of one of our craftiest librarians.

Poetry Workshop

Poetry Round Table Workshop

In this virtual Round Table Workshop, attendees share an original poem-in-progress and receive positive feedback and craft suggestions from fellow participants. Calvin Ahlgren, longtime Marin poet and workshop facilitator, will continue to shepherd the process, providing helpful direction and shaping in a supportive environment.  

Important notice: Participants need to submit their poem, no longer than one page, 12-pt or larger to [email protected] by noon on 02/02/2023 to attend the workshop on 02/07/2023. Please enter: Poem Submission in the subject line of your email and include your name in the text of the document with your poem.
