September is Library Card Sign-up Month! Take part in the celebration by making the most of everything the Library has to offer. Complete these four easy steps to supercharge your library card and get a chance to win a limited-edition Mill Valley Public Library sweatshirt:

- Get a library card
- Sign up for eNews (Great news! You’ve already done this!)
- Download the MARINet App
- Sign up for Libby

Once you’ve completed all four steps, fill out the form on this page or visit the Library to enter the sweatshirt raffle. Everyone who participates can also pick up a special edition sticker at the Library. Open to new and existing users.

Writing California

In partnership with the California Writers Club of Marin, the Mill Valley Public Library presents Writing California, a panel discussion of local authors who research and write about the rich past and present of California. The panel features authors Daniel Bacon, John Byrne Barry, Susanna Solomon, and moderator Joanne Orion Miller.

Beat Not Beat: Poetry Among the Redwoods

Wednesday, September 13th | 6:30pm
Outdoor Amphitheater

 Join us as we celebrate the Beat Not Beat anthology, edited by Rich Ferguson and co-edited by Kim Shuck. Appreciated for its candor and its sense of history and cultural and spiritual dynamism, beat literature remains a vital and open invitation to self-expression elevated to the here and now by a period when Beat poets, the Vortex, Baby Beats, and their progenitors inspired one another through cultural, political, and humorous means to create new forms of consciousness. There will be a small welcome reception from 6:30-6:45pm, followed by the poets reading from 6:45-7:45pm, and book signings from 7:45-8:00pm.

Please note: this event will take place in the Amphitheater behind the Library. Participants are encouraged to bring portable seating, blankets and flashlights, and to dress warmly. The Amphitheater has limited bench seating.

Mending Meetup

Saturday, September 9th | 2:00pm

Creekside Room

Do you have an old sweater or pair of pants that could use some TLC? Come mend with us! Bring items in need of buttons, hems, patches, darning, etc. and give your best-loved clothes a second life. Feel free to bring your own mending supplies or use ours, free of charge!

This program is open to adults with any level of craftiness or sewing experience. Participants will have the opportunity to learn and share with one another and have the assistance of one of our craftiest librarians.

Monthly Trivia Night

Trivia Night @ The Depot!

Thursday, September 14 | 6:00-7:30pm

The Depot Cafe and Bookstore

What's the square root of 144? What's the atomic symbol for gold? Who starred in the 1984 film Romancing the Stone? 

If any of these were easy to answer, come on down to our Trivia Night at The Depot! Participants can expect to assemble a team of no more than five people–or tackle it solo–and duke it out for the title of Trivia Master. We'll provide the questions and answer sheets; all you need is your knowledge! 

This program is Free and presented in partnership with The Depot Cafe and Bookstore.

Teen Advisory Board

Earn volunteer hours and help your community!

TAB Returns Tuesday, January 3rd!

Conference Room, 4pm 

Teens will advise the Youth Services Librarian on what books, materials, and programs teens in their community need. They also use these meetings to plan and host library programs as well as outreach projects. All members will volunteer in both children and teen programs at the library.

Please note that the Library will be closing early at 6:30pm on Monday, September 11th for the kickoff meeting of the City Infrastructure Funding Study Committee. For more information about the purpose and scope of this committee, click here.

This does not affect participants of the of the Emergency Preparedness Month: Active Threat Training program, which runs from 6:00-7:00pm in the Library’s Creekside Room.
