On July 3, 2025, the Missouri Democratic Party slammed Ann Wagner, Jason Smith, Eric Burlison, and Missouri Republicans for backing Donald Trump’s billionaire-first budget,  a bill that rips away health care, guts food assistance, and kills jobs, all to hand out massive tax breaks to the ultra-wealthy.

“Missouri Republicans just voted to rob their constituents blind,” said Missouri Democratic Party Chair Russ Carnahan.  “They sided with Donald Trump and billionaire donors over Missouri families and voted to strip health care from seniors, kick kids off food assistance, and shut down rural hospitals. This budget is a disaster for working people and a goldmine for the ultra-rich. Missouri voters won’t forget who sold them out.”

A vote for the Republican budget means:

• Over $1 trillion slashed from Medicaid, the largest cut in U.S. history
• Over 250,429 Missourians kicked off health care
• At least 1 in 4 nursing homes forced to close, including 39 in Missouri. 
• Hundreds of rural hospitals pushed to the brink, including 4 in Missouri
• 5 million Americans at risk of losing food assistance
• $79,000 average tax cut for millionaires
• Tax hikes on the lowest-income Missourians

While families across Missouri face higher costs and fewer services, Republicans' donors cash in. This vote is a direct attack on the working people she was elected to represent.

“Let’s be clear, this wasn’t just a vote,” Carnahan added. “It was a betrayal. Missouri Republicans chose to punch down on working Missourians so Trump’s billionaire buddies could cash out. They own the consequences, and come Election Day, they’ll pay the price.”
