JEFFERSON CITY, MO, SEPT. 18, 2023 – If you’re in northeast Missouri and looking for something fun to do, check out these events offered at state parks and historic sites.
Saturday, Sept. 23: World Bird Sanctuary Raptor Awareness Program at Cuivre River State Park
This free program starts at 2 p.m. and features birds of prey, such as falcons, hawks, owls and vultures. Participants will not only see different raptors in person, they’ll also learn a vulture’s secret weapon and how to identify birds of prey. This program takes place in the large field at Camp Sherwood in the park. “Special Event” signs will direct you to the location. Guests must be seated during the show, so bring a lawn chair or blanket. Pets will not be allowed at the event, as they may frighten the birds. Cuivre River State Park is located at 678 State Route 147 in Troy.
Saturday, Sept. 23: Archaeology Day at Thousand Hills State Park
Join in the fun! From 1 to 4 p.m., check out a variety of archaeological activities. Meet at the beach parking lot at 20431 State Highway 157 in Kirksville. All programs are weather permitting.
Tuesday, Sept. 26: Toddler Tuesday at Crowder State Park
Preschool-aged children and their guardians are invited to Toddler Tuesdays at the park. Each week, participants will listen to a nature story, make a nature craft and do an activity such as a nature walk. Meet at the Camp Grand River Recreation Hall at 9 a.m. Crowder State Park is located at 76 NW Highway 128 in Trenton.
Saturday, Sept. 30 – Fall Hike: Thompson River Trail North Loop at Crowder State
Park Join park team members for a guided hike on the Thompson River Trail’s North Loop. Meet at the equestrian parking lot at 9 a.m. From the park entrance, head west on Highway 146. Turn right on 52nd Avenue, then right on Dove Lane. Dove Lane ends at the equestrian parking lot. Participants should wear comfortable closed-toe walking shoes and bring water and a snack. Crowder State Park is located at 76 NW Highway 128 in Trenton.
Friday, Sept. 22: Reptile Program at Thousand Hills State Park
Come learn about reptiles at 7 p.m. at the amphitheater in Campground 1. You don’t have to be a camper to attend. You’ll learn about the lives of reptiles and which ones you might see at the park. Thousand Hills State Park is located at 20431 State Highway 157 in Kirksville.
