Montana Democratic Party Files FCC and FEC Complaint Against Ryan Zinke

Government and Politics

Helena, MT – The Montana Democratic Party’s Executive Director Sheila Hogan filed Federal Election Commission (FEC) and Federal Communications Commission (FCC) complaints this week, alleging Congressman Ryan Zinke’s latest ad violates both FEC and FCC standards.

The FCC/FEC Stand By Your Ad laws dictate that candidates must be on screen for at least four seconds and must show Zinke approving the message in the advertisement or show a clearly identifiable image of him; Ryan Zinke’s latest ad did neither.

This is the first time Zinke has played fast and loose when it comes to following the rules. Let’s not forget the numerous investigations into his conduct during his time as Interior Secretary, including the time he broke federal ethics rulesafter lying to investigators about his involvement in a Whitefish land deal.

“Ryan Zinke continues to show Montanans that he thinks he’s above the law and doesn’t need to follow the same rules as the rest of us,” said Montana Democratic Party Executive Director Sheila Hogan. “Unfortunately, our state has come to expect this kind of illegal behavior from an unethical leader who puts his personal interests above the needs of working Montanans.”
