LINCOLN, NE - The Nebraska Democratic Party Chair Jane Kleeb and Executive Director Precious McKesson issue the following statements regarding House Republicans passing their disastrous budget bill:
“Donald Trump and House Republicans like Don Bacon just gutted $260 billion from food assistance programs and slashed $700 billion from healthcare coverage for struggling Americans – all while leaving untouched over $700 billion in tax breaks and subsidies for Big Oil and billionaires. At the same time, they’re rolling back clean energy investments that could create jobs and protect our future. This isn’t fiscal responsibility – it’s brutal attack on working families, a gift to polluters, and a payout to the ultra-wealthy like Elon Musk, who laugh their way to the bank while everyday Americans are left behind. The only thing ‘big’ in this bill is the contempt it shows for the people who need help the most.” – Chair Jane Kleeb
“By the smallest of margins, the House passed the most disastrous budget bill in history by a vote of 215-214. Our federal delegation failed Nebraskans once again while doing the bidding of Donald Trump. The harmful bill is certainly advantageous for Trump’s allies and corporate buddies and defunds organizations like Planned Parenthood. Contained in the bill, a new $1,000 fee for migrants seeking asylum is one of many examples of Trump and MAGA Republicans’ cruelty and vision for this country. Along with cutting billions in SNAP and Medicaid for seniors, veterans, and working families, this bill will single-handedly facilitate the largest transfer of wealth from the poor to the ultra-rich. Nothing good will come from Trump’s budget priorities, which will kick millions of children off health care and let them go hungry. Republicans can try to present this as a good thing for Americans, but there will be countless and devastating impacts if it passes the Senate.” – Executive Director Precious McKesson
