DIABETES PREVENTION PROGRAM LAUNCH
We are excited to announce that we will be offering the YMCA’s National Diabetes Prevention Program (DPP) beginning Wednesday, January 25.
This evidence-based program supports overweight adults at risk for type-2 diabetes adopt and maintain healthy lifestyles by eating healthier, increasing physical activity, and losing a modest amount of weight.
The program provides a supportive environment where participants work together in a group setting with a trained lifestyle coach to reduce body weight by 5-7% and increase moderate physical activity (the equivalent of brisk walking) to 150 minutes per week. The DPP program is open to the community. Spots are still available!
For additional information and any questions, contact Eva Saint, Wellness Director, at 203-920-1623 or by email.
A GREENER Y
We recently completed the first phase of the Y’s sustainability initiatives by converting all interior and exterior lamps throughout the facility to LED fixtures totaling 570 upgraded lamps!
This conversion is projected to save the Y over 120,000 in kilowatt hours (kWh) of electricity annually, which is equivalent to the amount of electricity used by approximately 15 homes, and will reduce our carbon footprint by eliminating approximately 98,000 tons of CO2 generation emissions per year.
ANOTHER YEAR AHEAD OF SUPPORTING ALL THOSE WHO COUNT ON THE Y
Thank you to everyone who donated to our Y last year! Together, we raised $400,000 in 2022! This support makes it possible for our Y to have another meaningful year ahead of serving our community and all those who count on the Y through financial assistance; programs for those with special needs, cancer survivors, and chronic disease; free community events for all ages; and so much more!
