Parent-to-Parent: Thanksgiving

Dear Parent,

Gobble, gobble! Thanksgiving is right around the corner! The University will be closed for the Thanksgiving holiday on Thursday, November 24, and Friday, November 25. However, have your Lumberjack check with their professors regarding any schedule changes that may occur earlier in the week so they can plan accordingly.

While most students are preparing to head home, we understand some students are not able to. If your student will be staying on campus for the holiday, there is no need to worry. The campus living communities remain open over the Thanksgiving holiday with reduced dining options. The Hot Spot will even be offering a special Thanksgiving meal for any Lumberjacks who cannot go home!

May your home be filled with lots of love and joy this Thanksgiving!

Is your student struggling?

Transitioning to college is hard for most students and can be especially difficult for those with mental health challenges. However, the Case Management team at NAU Counseling Services has resources to help! Kristin Anderson, the Case Management Coordinator/Group Therapy Coordinator, and Katie Hinkle, the Case Management GA, are passionate about assisting students in finding the support and resources they need to be healthy and successful!

Kristin has 15 years of experience in community mental health as a case manager, with a special focus on working with students who are dealing with severe mental health challenges, such as students who have been hospitalized due to a mental health crisis.

Katie is currently completing her master's degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling at NAU. She has a passion for working with non-traditional students, such as students who are also parents needing resources to navigate family, work, and school.

Regardless of the identified need(s), any NAU student can schedule a free Case management appointment either in-person or over Zoom to get connected to counseling, psychiatry, medical services, groups, clubs, financial support, insurance, food, nutritionists, and more.

To schedule an appointment, please encourage your student to call 928-523-2261 or come into the Health and Learning Center during business hours to speak with the scheduling staff at the front desk. Additionally, students can book online through their health portal by logging into www.campushealth.nau.edu and clicking APPOINTMENTS > SCHEDULE APPOINTMENT > CASE MANAGEMENT. Finally, students are welcome to bring whomever they'd like to these meetings for support.
