LIVE HOLIDAY PERFORMANCE!

Charles Dickens “A Christmas Carol” - Adapted by Doris Baizley

Saturday, December 9th - 7:00pm
Sunday, December 10th - 2:00pm

Join us as we perform two very special staged readings of Dickens classic, “A Christmas Carol,” performed by the staff of the Oak Bluffs Public Library. This one-act adaptation is the perfect holiday play with all the essential elements: Scrooge, the Cratchets, Marley, and time-traveling ghosts. A troupe of traveling players improvises and creates Dickens’ world. Join us as the Christmas spirit transforms Ebenezer Scrooge in a story that has become a holiday tradition.

Save the date for our our wildly popular after-hours 21+ mini-golf event! Putts & Pints: Mini Golf at the Library is a fundraiser benefiting the programs of the Oak Bluffs Library.

Tickets will be available for sale at the door as well as in advance at the Circulation Desk and via Venmo.

Emily Davis: Ecology Through An Artist's Lens
Art Exhibit During Open Hours

Emily Davis explores the interdependence between people and nature through her work as a gardener, environmental artist, and student. In this exhibit, Emily aims to share how her practice of Leaf Art goes beyond aesthetic consideration, containing both the potential to radiate beauty and inspire meaningful conversation about resource use, wealth, waste, lifestyle, and human values. Learn more about Analog Leaf Collage with Emily firsthand at her workshops across the island this autumn and winter.

Unveiling the newest site on the African-American Heritage Trail of Martha’s Vineyard
Thursday, December 7th - 2:00pm

The African American Heritage Trail of Martha’s Vineyard in collaboration with the Massachusetts Association of Science Teachers invites you to join us at the dedication of a plaque honoring the life of Robert C. Hayden, Science Teacher, Historian, and Social Activist

With remarks from Elaine Weintraub & Nikeya Tankard (AAHTMV), Joel Weintraub (MAST), Richard Taylor, Kevin Hayden (Suffolk County DA) & members of the Hayden Family

Handbell Choir Winter Performance
Wednesday, December 13th - 5:30pm

We welcome the West Tisbury Congregational Church Handbell Choir for their winter performance at the Oak Bluffs Library.

Their music will include Holiday selections with discussion of techniques and history.  Please come and enjoy the festive occasion and listen to simple, yet exciting Holiday music.

Free and open to all. This is an after hours performance, please enter in the rear entrance directly into the meeting room.

Adaptive Yoga
Tuesdays in November | 10:15-11:15am

Adaptive Yoga is a style of yoga that considers all bodies and abilities. This class aims to improve patron's flexibility, concentration and strength while remaining accessible to all. Lorrane has been a yoga teacher for many years on island, teaching classes at Yoga on the Vine, private lessons, and her popular summertime morning flow at Bend in the Road. Join us on Tuesday mornings in-person or on zoom.

Tap Class with Hannah
Wednesdays in December - 8:15 - 9:00am

Join Hannah for a tap dance class to discover your inner tap dancer! Class will include a warm-up, instruction to basic tap steps and vocabulary. We will end each class with some fun, light choreography that will keep you tapping until the next class.

No experience is necessary, and a limited number of tap shoes will be provided (size dependent). Although this class is geared towards adults, tap is fun for all ages, and a great way to get in touch with rhythm and musicality.

Cooking Class with Chef Brent Turner
Tuesdays 11/7-12/19 | 4:30-5:30pm

The Home Made Series with Chef Brent Turner focusses on food that you can make instead of buy. This allows folks to save money, cut down on waste, learn new skills and know exactly what is in their food. A different project every week: granola, ricotta, mayo, nut butter, pie crusts and more!

*VIRTUAL* Steeped in Secrecy: The Boston Tea Party, 250 Years Later
Saturday, December 16th - 2:00

On the 250th anniversary of the Boston Tea Party (December 16, 1773), learn about the brewing political problems tea presented in its history with Anglophile and former UK resident Claire Evans. Then, author, genealogist, librarian, and former UK resident Debra Dudek examines the history of the Boston Tea Party’s most famous partiers (and phonies), as well as how to trace bona fide participants through lineage societies and historical groups.

NOTE: This program will be recorded. All registrants will receive the recording via email within 48 hours of the program.

Come play Magic: the Gathering at the Oak Bluffs Public Library! Players of all skill levels are welcome. On the first and third Fridays of the month. Please enter the library through the rear Meeting Room entrance of the library as this program is after hours.
