Happy Spring! Baltimore is so beautiful during this season!

News about Baltimore receiving some of the contaminated water from the East Palestine, Ohio train derailment to be treated is disturbing. You can find my statement about it here. We will have an emergency hearing about this in the coming days.

In this week's newsletter, we have information on our upcoming Egg Hunt on April 8th, Baltimore City is hiring CDL drivers, how to avoid catalytic converter theft, update on our tax sale bills in Annapolis, Baltimore Children and Youth Fund workshops, Great Kids Farm family days, Businesses needed to host YouthWorks students, Mayor's Clean Up on April 22nd, and Super Kids Camps registration is open!

In our district, we have information on our annual Egg Hunt at Wyman Park Dell, Shredding Event on April 8th, emergency BGE work, an awesome internship opportunity with the Space Science Telescope Institute, Remington Shop Small Crawl this weekend, and summer Waverly Market applications are due April 1st!

Introducing Inclusionary Housing Tax Credit

During this evening's City Council meeting, I am introducing a companion bill to our Inclusionary Housing law - the High Performance Inclusionary Housing Tax Credit. It is the first affordable housing tax credit in Baltimore's history, and works to ensure the Inclusionary units as outlined in our original bill 22-0195 will be built. Baltimore City College Renovation meeting

March 29th at 5:30pm

Baltimore City College High School is our next school in our district to be renovated under the 21st Century Schools program. There is an update meeting for community members, parents, alumni regarding the renovations, schedule, and more. Click here for the details and to register.

DPW 10 Year Solid Waste Management Plan meeting - Today 6pm

The Department of Public Works is conducting the 10 year Solid Waste Management Plan, and your voice is needed! Tonight at 6pm there is a virtual meeting to learn more about the plan and provide your feedback. You can find more information here.

Baltimore City is hiring CDL Drivers!

Baltimore needs CDL Drivers! These drivers are needed for recycling pick up, trash pick up, dumpster deliveries, Department of Transportation work, and more. Baltimore City will train and pay a retention bonus of $10k! We have been training and losing drivers, and we are looking to keep them. Please pass this along to anyone looking for work! District 14th's Annual Egg Hunt on April 8th!

Join us for our second Annual Egg Hunt here in District 14! It will take place Saturday, April 8th at 3pm. This year we are partnering with Baltimore's Family Alliance and Wyman Park Dell to bring you and your family a great time. All are welcome! I hope to see you there!

Intern with the Space Telescope Science Institute!

Deadline this Friday

I am so proud to represent the Space Telescope Science Institute, and they are offering a paid internship opportunity for teens ages 16 and up. It is art and science together! Application deadline is this Friday, March 31st. Click here for the details and application.

Great Kids Farm Family Hours! This Wednesday!

Great Kids Farm - a project of Baltimore City Public Schools - welcomes families four times this spring semester! Learn about the work of Great Kids Farm including the animals and the fresh vegetables! The afternoon includes tours and fun activities. See the above flyer for details.

Apply to host a YouthWorker this summer

YouthWorks has received over 7,000 applicants so far! Our young people want to work! As a business or organization, you can become a host site for our YouthWorker/s for this summer. For more information, click here.

Tax Sale Reform bill in the General Assembly - Action Needed

The complete tax sale reform bill SB766 is amended with a harmful amendment which was put forth by the tax sale purchasers. Please support the House version HB867. Please have your Senators and Delegates support these bills! Please see the update here.

Avoiding Catalytic Converter Theft

Catalytic Converter theft is more rampant than ever. BPD has created the above graphic for tips to avoid being a victim of this crime, which costs residents hundreds of dollars to replace the catalytic converter. This looks like good advice! See the above graphic for details.

Grant Opportunities for Grassroots Organizations

The Baltimore Children and Youth Fund is hosting grant workshops for their upcoming funding round! Non-profit organizations who work with young people can apply for up to $150,000! See the above graphic for the details on the funding and the workshops. Last workshop is tomorrow.

SuperKids Summer Camp Registration Open

Parks and People has opened their registration for SuperKids Summer Camp. The camp is for Baltimore City Public School students who are in grades 1-5. For more details and to register, click here.

The Shredding Event is back for the Spring! - April 8th

April 8th at JHU Eastern is the first Shredding event of the season! bring your paperwork that needs to be shredded up to two 32 gallon bags. This area will also accept some small appliances like dehumidifiers, ACs, and others. Check out the graphic above for all the information.

The Mayor's Clean Up is April 22nd - Earth Day!

Register today for the Mayor's Clean Up! It takes place on Earth Day! When you or your neighborhood registers, you can sign up for backs and equipment. You can call 311 or follow the directions on the above graphic.

Shop Small Remington Crawl - April 1st

The shops in Remington are hosting a Shop Small event April 1st! The shops in the 14th District include Greedy Reads, and vendors inside R. House. It will be a fun day to support small business!

Summer Season at the Market - Apply Now!

Know a local farmer or two seeking a fabulously busy summer market venue? Have friends with delicious baked goods or juices or country-specific specialties who are ready for the next step up? District 14’s own 32nd Street Waverly Farmers Market - now 43 years young - has opened its Summer 2023 application process welcoming applicants from across the City, in surrounding counties, and over state lines. Check out how to become a vendor from early June to mid-November on Saturday mornings in Waverly here. All the regulations and requirements are spelled out; online-only applications are due April 1 and notifications are sent out May 1. See you at the Market!

Baltimore City Council

The Baltimore City Council will meet this evening. You can join us in City Council Chambers or on Charm TV. You can find the agenda on the City Council's calendar page here.

Committee meetings are hybrid but in person participation is encouraged. You can join us in City Council Chambers, Charm TV, or on Webex online. The details are on the Calendar page here.

On Tuesday morning the Ways and Means Committee will hold a hear on a resolution about code enforcement and Use and Occupancy permits.

On afternoon, the Economic and Community Development Committee will hold hearings on several zoning items and the cannabis working group. Please note our hearing regarding 3618 and 3620 Elm Avenue is postponed.

On Thursday morning the Education, Workforce, and Youth Committee will hold a hearing regarding the Children and Youth Fund.

As a reminder, I serve on the following committees: Economic and Community Development, Public Safety and Government Operations, and Rules and Legislative Oversight.
