Oklahoma Democratic Party Chair John Waldron Responds to Big Billionaire Bill

Government and Politics

July 8, 2025

"The Big Billionaire Bill coming out of Washington is going to bring a lot of pain to a lot of people in Oklahoma. It's as if our representatives and senators in Congress didn't read it - or worse, they did and didn't care about the impact on working class Oklahomans.

The bill cuts taxes mostly for the wealthy and pays for it by cutting services for the rest of us and by burdening future generations with debt. SoonerCare, SNAP, public education dollars, and more sit on the chopping block in the name of billionaire handouts.

SNAP benefits, which feed hungry children all over our state, will also take a hit for the sake of the tax cut. Given that the minimum wage hasn't been increased in over fifteen years, too many of Oklahoma's working families already rely on food banks that are going to receive less federal support.

And for what? Tax cuts which, like the last round in 2017, will disproportionately benefit out of state billionaires like Jeff Bezos. And as the bill adds three trillion to the debt, future generations will suffer. We are making children not yet born pay for this windfall for the wealthy. Here in Oklahoma, we have to balance the budget. DC doesn't.

What can we do about it? Fight back! The Oklahoma Democratic Party calls on Oklahomans to register to vote or re-register as Democrats, study the issues and get involved in campaigns. When the people take a stand, the politicians will have to take notice.

It's time to take back our state from the rich and powerful, and give it back to the people."
