LITTLE ROCK, Ark.—Following an in-person briefing at the Arkansas Department of Emergency Management (ADEM) with Governor Sarah Huckabee Sanders and Director of the Arkansas Division of Emergency Management, AJ Gary, Sanders’ spokeswoman Alexa Henning released the following readout:
“Today, Governor Sarah Huckabee Sanders met with Director of ADEM, AJ Gary, to discuss the state of Arkansas’ emergency management protocols and preparedness. The Director briefed Governor Sanders on programs for responding to man-made and natural disasters, including how the agency coordinates with local first responders and law enforcement. Governor Sanders expressed confidence in the team at ADEM to respond to anything from an earthquake to severe weather to terrorism. The Governor and Director agreed that more must be done to bolster the state’s cyber security not only in government but across all 75 counties. Director Gary thanked Governor Sanders for making time in her first full day as governor to receive a briefing, tour the Emergency Operations Center, and thank staff for their work and dedication. Governor Sanders and Director Gary agreed to stay in constant contact as they ensure that our state is prepared to handle any emergency quickly and effectively respond for the benefit of all Arkansans.”
