The Quick and our artists are in the news.

Each season, the Quick programs artists from around the world that offer memorable experiences and engaging post-show conversations. This season is no different and we’ve enjoyed seeing our artists, and the Quick, featured in local and national publications. Here are just a few for you to peruse:

In the November edition of Fairfield Lifestyle, editor Samantha Beranbom shared the different aspects of how the Quick serves our community and highlighted the incredible line-up of artists taking place in November.

The New York Times featured two Quick artists including a review of Broken Chord by Gregory Maqoma and Thuthuka Sibisi and a preview of new work by Michael Keegan-Dolan for their St. Ann’s Warehouse premiere of “How to Be a Dancer in 72,000 Easy Lessons” that ran last month before the full company, Tea? Da?sa, comes to the Quick to perform MÁM.

In addition, Michael Keegan-Dolan’s new work was listed by DANCE magazine as one of the “7 Dance Shows to See Heading into November” which features the best in dance taking place all over the U.S.

ARTS FOR ALL

Serving our community.

As part of Fairfield University, the Quick Center for the Arts is committed to offering world-class experiences beyond the stage. As part of this commitment, the Quick created the Arts for All program, focused on serving K-12th grade students in Bridgeport, Fairfield, Norwalk, and beyond with access to workshops, open rehearsals, and lecture/demonstrations with artists. This fall, we have enjoyed an action-packed month of programs that serve our community and our students. Here’s just a sampling of what we’ve been up to!

From team-building, agility, and balance workshops led by Agathe et Adrien to workshops around the voice and learning songs, dances, and hand-clapping patterns based in South African songs with the Broken Chord cast, and Gullah culture workshops with Ranky Tanky, the Quick served students both on campus and off, including the Fairfield University Field Hockey team, the Bridgeport Detention Center, Regional Center for the Arts in Trumbull, Park City Magnet, Roosevelt School, and the FAME afterschool program, and Central High.

In just one month’s time, hundreds of youth enjoyed working hands-on with artists from around the world that would otherwise not be available to them and with experiences that last a lifetime. And that’s just the start with many more educational programs coming up as part of Arts for All. We’re incredibly appreciative of our funders who help us prioritize being able to provide this access to world-class artists in our community.

STUDENT EXPERIENCES AT THE QUICK

Student Engagement Intern

As part of our mission, the Quick Center for the Arts is dedicated to serving Fairfield University students, and providing a space for connection, learning, and meaningful dialogue. Each season we welcome students as audience members, workshop participants, staff, and interns.

This fall, we created a new internship as part of the Stags in the Field program, designed to support sophomores. Meaghan Toomey is majoring in Marketing and Psychology and is serving as the Student Engagement intern.

When we asked Meaghan why she chose to intern at the Quick she shared, “I love the Quick Center and how amazing this resource on our campus is. This internship opportunity immediately caught my eye, as it is a great hands-on experience to step into the world of marketing and I get to see what my future career is all about. The Quick has allowed me to gain so much experience and knowledge of marketing, all while working with an amazing team. I am so grateful to have been able to intern here this semester!”

Meaghan also shared her enthusiasm about the season, especially the performance of MÁM by Michael Keegan-Dolan, noting “I’m super excited with this being the U.S. Premiere of the work, and from what I have heard and seen, MÁM is such a powerful piece.”
