Meet The Instructors
Ida Mae Irby, our Watercolor instructor, comes to us from the Savannah College of Art & Design with a Masters in Fine Art, where she studied graduate-level painting as well as jewelry making and computer-aided design. Check out her fantastic website.
Ida is the instructor for our new class, Mastering Color in Acrylic Painting (AVO 8749-40). In this class, students will learn about the color theories of the old masters and how they applied them to their paintings. You will also explore the symbolic meaning of color in art. By the end of this course, you will have a deeper understanding of how to use color theory to create powerful and expressive paintings.
Michael Ziegler, our Stained Glass instructor, brings decades of experience in stained glass design and instruction to his classes. His students return semester after semester to learn the basics, hone their skills, and enjoy classroom camaraderie fostered by Michael's warm personality and wry humor.
Raed Al-Rawi, our Basic Acrylic and Intermediate Painting instructor, is incredibly skilled both in art and instruction. Because of his gentle and kind personality, as well as his ability to teach his craft, his classes are perennial favorites; many students attend his classes over and over. Check out his permanent exhibits at Charlotte Douglas Airport, Concourse B.
Karen Earnhardt, our Mosaics for Your Home and Garden instructor, has her work featured at most juried art festivals in central North Carolina, including the Southern Christmas show. In her classes, she goes the extra mile by bringing all the needed materials for her students, who find the art of mosaics a relaxing, rewarding, and beautiful outlet.
Meet Mike Daikubara, Urban Sketcher extraordinaire. Again this spring, Mike brings his passion for Urban Sketching to Central Piedmont, eager to share his expertise and love for his craft with his enthusiastic students! His class begins in a classroom for a short orientation, then heads out into the 'real world' of urban sketching. Find him on Instagram for awesome sketches he creates at sites across our area!
Sheryl Marx, our Basic Drawing and Colored Pencils instructor, is a passionate and gifted artist who starts with the basics, teaching in such a way that virtually anyone can learn to draw. Using the excellent step-by-step book she wrote to use in her classes, her students are empowered to succeed in all mediums artistically.
