From: Wellfleet OysterfestWHAT TO EXPECT ON YOUR SHELLFISH FARM TOUR
Farm tours on August 21 and September 18th are offered in partnership with the Wellfleet Historical Society and Museum. These farm tours are offered from an Indigenous perspective. Wampanoag native Marcus Hendricks will discuss historical and contemporary shellfish practices, the cultural significance of Wampum and quahogs in general, shellfishing and the relationship to the land: "Original Instructions," and the sustainability and reverence for ecology and natural aquaculture systems.
Children under 12 are FREE and do not need a ticket; as an alternative, please consider making a donation to Wellfleet Oyster Alliance.
Boots or shoes that can get wet are essential. Please do not wear sandals or flip-flops. Shellfish shells are very sharp and could cut bare feet!
IMPORTANT: Some farms require a fair amount of walking on uneven sand to be able to access the site. Please use your discretion in determining if this activity fits your physical capabilities.
