From: Town of BrewsterBrewster residents are coping with increasing energy bills. While energy prices typically increase during the winter months, this year’s steep increases are a result of record-high natural gas prices, primarily driven by the Russia and Ukraine conflict. This is especially impactful in New England, where natural gas is used to generate much of the region’s electricity. Beginning January 1, 2023, the average residential Eversource electric customer in Eastern Massachusetts using 600 kWh will see a 23% or $47 increase to their total bill.
Cape Light Compact’s new residential pricing will be 21.699 cents per kilowatt-hour (kWh). Brewster residents can participate in Cape Light Compact’s energy efficiency programs to reduce kilowatt hour usage. Residents can begin with a no-cost energy assessment to identify energy-saving opportunities and qualify for incentives on efficiency upgrades. The Compact offers rebates on insulation, air sealing, and other upgrades to make buildings more efficient going into the winter months. Additionally, income-qualified customers may receive incentives of up to 100% on weatherization and other upgrades.
