Government and Politics

Warwick, RI - In response to the conclusion of a yearlong investigation revealing Governor Dan McKee’s direct intervention in awarding a multimillion-dollar contract to the politically connected ILO Group, RI GOP Chairman Joe Powers expressed dismay-but not surprise-at the lack of accountability. The outcome, which saw no charges filed, left many Rhode Islanders questioning why political elites seem to get a free pass while ordinary citizens face the full weight of the law.
“Once again, we see Democrats protecting Democrats,” Chairman Powers stated. “It’s the same, tired story in Rhode Island politics-a ruling class looking out for each other while the rest of us are left to deal with their poor decisions and self-serving priorities. Rhode Islanders are exhausted by the same old politics as usual. This, ‘I gotta guy mentality’ has to stop. This isn’t the government they deserve, and they are ready for real change. Just another reason why 85% of Rhode Islanders call for an Office of Inspector General”
The report on the ILO contract found significant ethical concerns surrounding the Governor’s actions, but ultimately, no legal consequences were pursued. “To see those in power avoid accountability once again is a slap in the face to Rhode Islanders who work hard every day and play by the rules,” Powers said. “Our state is at a breaking point; we can no longer tolerate a system where the people’s trust is so blatantly disregarded.”
With Election Day fast approaching, Chairman Powers urged voters to take action. “This November, Rhode Islanders have a unique opportunity to send a message to the ruling class-that they’ve had enough of this backroom politicking. It’s time to elect leaders who will put the people of Rhode Island first, who will be transparent, and who will restore integrity to our government,” he emphasized. “The future of our state depends on our collective choice to step up and make that change.”
The Rhode Island Republican Party remains committed to holding leaders accountable and advocating for a government that works for all Rhode Islanders, not just a select few.
